a) Unconfined Compressive Strength Test
The Unconfined Compression Test is a laboratory test used to derive the Unconfirmed Compressive Strength (UCS) of a soil or rock specimen. Unconfirmed Compressive Strength (UCS) stands for the maximum axial compressive strength that a specimen can bear under zero confining stress.
b) Triaxial Compression Test
A test in which a cylindrical specimen of soil or rock undisturbed soil encased in an impervious membrane is subjected to a confining pressure and then loaded axially to failure. Cohesion and angle of internal friction are calculated as the end result.
c) Direct Shear Test
A direct shear test is a laboratory or test used by geotechnical engineers to measure the shear strength properties of soil or rock material, mass , to assist in foundation design.
Vane Shear Test
The shear vane test is a method of measuring the undrained shear strength of a cohesive soil. The test is carried out with equipment consisting of a rod with vanes mounted to it that is inserted into the ground and rotated.
